"The ballet Archduke: A Viennese game of dance and love" (1926) By Max Neufeld

The Arch-Duke Herr Sixtus especially cares for Arts and particularly for young ballet students. The same is true of the Arch-Duke A.D.C., Herr Count Paul Paladin who shares with the Arch-Duke a special affection for Frau Elisa Jenkins, a young ballet student.
Unexpectedly and thanks to a misunderstanding involving Frau Elisa and the Arch-Duke, the young student will become the new Prima Ballerina of the “Wiener Staatsoper”.

To say that this Herr Graf watched an Austrian silent operetta recently at the Schloss theatre, is certainly an evident and obvious remark, western much as saying that a commoner watched an American silent, a silent Bolshevist propaganda, a French silent romance or an Italian silent film full of divas.

In "The Ballet Archduke: A Viennese game and love of dance" (1926), an Austrian silent romantic operetta In Which You Can watch - besides luxurious indoor scenery featuring Palaces and the Vienna Opera - a love triangle that Involves at Arch -Duke, his adjutant and a young ballerina. Everything is properly filmed by Mr Max Neufeld (eg his use of the traveling camera emphasizing the grandioseness of the Austrian scenery points out his inner artistic intentions). He's an Austrian film director who had an early career as an actor and he possessed a special fondness for those typical Austrian subjects that commoners like so much ... and obviously aristocrats don’t because they don’t like documentaries.

Accordingly, such an Austrian operetta casts the three main characters of the film with performers that play their roles properly: Herr Albert Paulig as an old aristocrat satyr, an Arch-Duke with a particular interest in ballet primadonnas, Frau Dina Gralla as the lively ballerina girl who goes to and fro into the arms of the Arch-Duke and his adjutant, played by Herr Werner Pittschau as a bewildered young Austrian Count.

Unfortunately the film hasn’t any rich and fat old heiress so necessary when aristocrats are around. There is only the presence of the Arch-Duke’s aunt does not provide a good example of the fattening diet that Austrian aristocrats like so much, because eating schnitzels all day it is not, exactly, a piece of cake…

Everyone is settled in elegant and astounding aristocratic indoor settings that are plentiful in Vienna, so in this film the art direction staff didn’t have anything to improve ...or to do. So, meanwhile, during their vacation, the director simply put the camera in front of all of those decadent and majestic settings.

Certainly the Viennese atmosphere helps to develop a predictable and, at the same time, witty and charming story ( in spite of all, this is Austria and the warm essence of decadence is everywhere ). Probably in other wicked hands this would be a more interesting silent film and full of malice. That’s mainly due to the characteristics of the story, the kind that commoners like very much to exaggerate, that is to say, the aristocrat’s carefree and lustful way of life. However, Herr Neufeld displays many virtues with a mixture of irreverence and hilarity. For examples: the Opera divas’ rivalry, the continual misunderstandings involving between the three main characters and the military /love manoeuvres at Mudwitz.

The classic and decadent operetta atmosphere that can be seen in the film is curiously intertwined with the modern 20’s of the last century. That fact at first bewilders the audience watching those Austrian fellows wearing those impeccable uniforms or even the Arch-Duke in civvies in the streets of Vienna! That’s not to forget the down to earth life of Frau Elisa who resides in a modest apartment. There’s a very interesting combination of modest common real life with the luxury and aristocratic Palaces in a witty contrast that Herr Neufeld certainly uses in order to distinguish and mock properly the aristocratic world of decadence. He transmits to the audience a world of fantasy and idealized dreams that only in the silent films can come true. For this reason “Der Balletterzherzog: Ein Wiener Spiel von Tanz und Liebe” is an excellent paradigm of a film operetta.

And now, if you'll allow me, I must temporarily take my leave because this German Count must continue to rehearsal about dancing on the tips of historical aristocratic toes.

Herr Graf Ferdinand Von

Galicia - / -

Herr Sixtus Archduke shows a special appreciation of the arts and especially for the young aspiring dancers, just as is happening to his assistant, Herr Count Paul Paladin, the which is keen to Frau Elisa Jenkins, one of those young aspiring dancers above. Unexpectedly
thanks to a misunderstanding which are involved both as the young Archduke Elisa, the latter will become the Prima Ballerina of the "Wiener Staatsoper.

Herr Graf say that it has recently been in an operetta theater Schloss Austrian silent, all is certainly an obvious truism, is how to say that a commoner has been one of those silent films of American cowboys, a Bolshevik propaganda film, a work or a romantic French style silent Italian film full of divas.

"Der Balletterzherzog: Ein Wiener Spiel von Tanz und Liebe" (1926), is, indeed, a romantic operetta silent on which you can see, plus luxurious indoor scenarios where you can see the splendor of the palaces and Vienna State Opera, a love triangle starring an Archduke, his assistant and a young dancer, all filmed in a very correct for Her Max Neufeld (only cite the use of traveling highlighting the grandeur of these lavish sets Austrians, as an unequivocal demonstration of his artistic intentions), which in addition to director, also had a silent first stage as an actor, showing a special interest Neufeld Herr, for these typical Austrian issues like so much to commoners and aristocrats obviously not, because the latter do not look like documentaries.

The film features a protagonist whose trio of actors play their characters as identic, Herr Albert Paulig like an old satyr aristocrat Archduke with a special interest Primadonna, Frau Dina Gralla as aspiring dancer pert which moves us into the arms of the Archduke and his puzzled assistant, played by Herr Werner Pittschau it.

Unfortunately, the film does not see any fat and rich heiress, so essential when they are talking about the aristocracy, only shown in the film, the presence of the aunt of Archduke which is not a good example of diet fat, a delight to the Austrian aristocrats, for indeed, be eating all day "schnitzels" serious threat to the most slender figure ...

All actors are located in elegant and stately interior sets such that both abound in Vienna, so the team behind the film art director had nothing to do or improve about, enjoying a vacation while the director just put the camera in front of those decadent and majestic scenery of the Austrian capital.

Viennese atmosphere certainly helps tremendously when developing this story predictable and at the same time, cryptic and charming, because despite everything, this is Austria and the warm scent of decay is everywhere, but probably in other hands much more perverse, the film would be imbued with much more evil due to the special features that has the history of film being the kind of stories that reflects the libidinous and carefree aristocratic life that commoners like too much, anyway, Herr Neufeld shows some virtuosity in his film by mixing a certain irreverence and hilarity, as it happens in sequences as the rivalry between opera divas, the continuing misunderstandings between the three protagonists of the film or the military exercises and loving individuals in Mudwitz.

This classic and decadent atmosphere of operetta is curiously intertwined in the modern film with 20's of last century, a fact which at first may surprise the audience, looking at these gentlemen bearing as spotless uniforms on the streets or even Viennese Archduke see undercover! by them, not to mention the ordinary life of Frau Elisa who lives in a modest apartment, an interesting combination of ordinary and earthly life commoner compared to the aristocratic life of luxury in the palace, all a malicious contrast Herr Neufeld certainly well used to differentiate and make fun of that decadent aristocratic world, able to transmit the public an idealized world of fantasy and dreams can be fulfilled only on the silent screen them for this reason "Der Balletterzherzog: Ein Wiener Spiel von Tanz und Liebe "is the perfect paradigm an entire silent classic operetta.

And now, if I may, I have to leave because this count Germanic must continue practicing their dance on tiptoe.

Social-educational centers of excellence with networking skills. Cooperation Meeting of the Robert Bosch Foundation, the three major associations of educators training (Protestant, Catholic, public and free)
Together with Sabine while I was on this high-profile meeting of the principals, professors of applied sciences, carriers, MPs, senior officials of ministries and press people were invited. The political point of view, emphasized that education rather than support for early childhood and wanted to be supported by education plans and basic scientific research. The pedagogical perspectives of view emphasized the social skills of educational staff. In this case, the school must release the pressure to justify themselves, they may be However, not hide behind the large number of graduates in relation to the technical colleges (16,000 against 2,500). The requirements for a modern education are generally increasing (monitoring and diagnosis, perception, interpretation and reflection, strengthening organization related skills - such as through administrative and financial management and many others).
In Germany, we often think of very specific field, we need to network in the future much more. This applies both within the school and outside. Within the subjects we need to network and to bring together for practice. But the schools need to get connected with the educational institutions of the practice as with universities.
In future, it is the one generalizing to a basic education in schools and further education - including at colleges, so should the multidimensional reality of the working field into account. The discussion is no longer the question "academisation or not." The scope of what is to be expected, is valued very differently. In Frankfurt you will recognize 30 ECTS, others 60-90 ETCS. The source of mbs with Bleiberg College and the Hogeschool Stenden negotiated model is so far unprecedented, as there 120 points to be recognized and you have to reach only 60 ECTS in one year.
Leaving aside the substantive point of view on one side, then the superior skills, while maintaining generalizing the training and also the pedagogical skills of community well for the future. On the issue of continuing education at universities will be about how you will to study, because the existence of a formal "graduation certificate" has proved in reality not be sufficient; good third break from their studies. Mr. Ring / Hessian Ministry of Education proposes the establishment of transitional systems to prepare for university study. Here, the schools also offer a possibility. The question is, of course, how many graduates of studies later go back to the socio-educational facilities for children, so far, including the establishment plans wage rates do not provide such perspectives. That would be checked worth empirically.

The Frisian Christmas

The tradition of the Friesian Christmas tree, the Julbaums (in Sylt Frisian Jöölboom in Föhringer Frisian Kenkenbuum ) is a variant of the classic Christmas tree, which is about the middle of the 19th Century on the North Frisian coast, and above all on the islands was literally born out of necessity.

There were no pine trees in this area or other suitable conifers that could have been a Christmas tree can use.
so they had to so with a simple wooden frame, top with a round arch, with the evergreen branches - is decorated - such as boxwood or ivy. The arch, which in later times and today most with four candles - similar to the Advent wreath - is open, symbolizing the seasons and the evergreen foliage the hope and certainty that after winter comes the spring again and again.

The frame is decorated with a series of figures that are often made of dough and Kenkentjüch hot.

follow it: fish and sailing ship, symbolizing the sea, fishing, living and working with and the sea. A mill is the wind. Agriculture is represented by pig and cow, in some variants by lamb or horse. Over all the central figures drohnt a rooster - as guards, warning voice and protection from the fire.
Today we assume that the figures pastry has its origins in pagan sacrifices to Wodan, Donar, and Frigga, either symbolic of actual sacrifice of animals or as so-called victims of bread for the gods.

Often the Julbaum is still festooned with chains of raisins, with apples or other dried fruit. They stand for the germination of life.

Why Gin Causes Impotence

"Max Au Couvent" (1914) By Max Linder

Mademoiselle Lydie is madly in love with Monsieur Max, Both Are Youngsters and handsome and as a pair That live According To the time. They use the new technologies (carrier pigeons) in order to Be in touch and in this way Be punctual at Their rendezvous. But

Such a happy couple of lovers will Suffer a misfortune when to Mlle. Lydie's father Discovers the lovers kissing passionately outdoors. So due to the fact that Lydie’s fathers is a man with a strict convictions of the last century, that is to say, the XIX century …, he decides that his daughter must go to a convent in order to prevent such scandalous behaviour.

Before entering the convent, Mlle. Lydie secretly hides in her bag her modern cell apparatus, that is to say, the carrier pigeon. In this way she will later send a short text message to her lover telling him the terrible news of her religious imprisonment.
The moment that an amazed Monsieur Max receives the air mail message, he decides, with the help of an accomplice chauffeur, to go in the rescue of his lover.

In order to enter the convent, Monsieur Max’s chauffeur asks for help from the nuns by telling them that his master is feeling slightly ill. After some reluctance, the nuns decide to allow the entrance of the man into the convent in the cold light of day ( usually men only enter the convents under the cover of darkness ). Once Monsieur Max is inside, pretty soon he will try to rescue his lover.

But our hero goes to the wrong chamber to find Mlle. Lydie; so a terrible fuss begins which in turn causes a commotion in the peaceful convent. Consequently a thrilling chase after Monsieur Max up and down the convent ensues with nuns on the run and the fraulein inmates in convent nightdress too ( ah, what a wonderful sight for the eyes of this disrespectful German count!... ).

During the commotion, Monsieur Max will be able to scheme a new plan via ordering his chauffeur to impersonate him as the mysterious convent intruder. He thus kidnaps Mlle. Lydie by taking her out of the convent and flees with her by car. This is an excellent plan that allows Monsieur Max to become a hero in the eyes of the convent nuns and especially his father in law. He explains that he plans to save the poor child from the clutches of the mysterious convent intruder.

When Mlle. Lydie’s father is warned by phone and, MEIN GOTT!!... in “Polivision”!! ...about the terrible news, he goes quickly to the convent and, after an attempt to strangle Monsieur Max, they both decide to go to the rescue of Mlle. Lydie and so another thrilling chasing starts, this time by car.

During the chase they will find in the road a public square with a monument in the middle. So they decide to violate the traffic regulation found in every genuine silent comedy; that is to say, by circling the square twice, thrice and in fast motion.

When finally the accomplice chauffeur is reached, he tries to escape by foot carrying Mlle. Lydie in his wicked arms. But fortunately Monsieur Max, in what it is an admirable act of courage, shoots the kidnapper and that deadly fall liberates the object of captivity, that is to say, Mlle. Lydie.

Ah, at last Monsieur Max and Mademoiselle Lydie are reunited again and under the eyes and the blessing of the father in law! During such a touching scene, the accomplice chauffeur that is behind them playing dead, sits and laughs watching such a happy ending. Noticing this and in order that Herr Max isn’t discovered, he shoots him twice, thrice and even quadrice, and would blast the whole cartridge case if necessary ... everything for the sake of his love and happiness.

Ah, what a delightful short comedy is “Max Au Couvent” (1913) directed by Herr Max Linder!!... It’s an excellent and funny example of how finally pure love triumphs over any obstacle, no matter even if two important, terrible and influential institutions like family and church try to interfere with it.

And now, if you'll allow me, I must temporarily take my leave because this German Count Must leave the Priesthood.

Mademoiselle Lydie is madly in love with Monsieur Max, both are young and attractive and live according to modern times they have lived, for that reason, like to use the newest age technologies, such as pigeons and so in this manner, keep in touch and can go point to dating.

But as happy couple is about to suffer a setback, right at the same time when both two are surprised by the father of Mlle. Lydie, kissing passionately in public, because the father Mlle. Lydie is a man of strict belief clung to the last century, that is, the nineteenth century, took the drastic step of placing her daughter in a convent and thus avoid such scandalous behavior.

Before entering the convent, Mlle. Lydie get secretly enter in your bag, modern long-distance communication system, that is, the pigeon, and can then send a short text message to their beloved air to communicate the terrible news of his detention religious.
At the same moment in which Monsieur Max receives air mail, decide devise a plan to rescue his beloved, with the help of his accomplice driver. To get into

in the convent, the driver of Monsieur Max enlists the help of the nuns who live there telling them that his boss has suddenly found unfit, by accepting the above, not without some reluctance at first, eventually to enter a convent full man daylight (usually men only come in convents at night and in a crouching) Monsieur Max once been inside the convent, without further delay, he rushes to rescue his beloved.

But our hero is the wrong room, getting into one in which there was Mlle. Lydie, but another resident of the institution, resulting in a terrible uproar in the convent and therefore a persecution in which Monsieur Max is chased by many young nuns as well as residents in the convent frauleins, wearing only a nightgown as they only clothes (ah, what a beautiful picture it for a whole irreverent aristocrat!.)
During
fuss, Monsieur Max gets devise a new plan, ordering his driver to make it happen for him, that is, as the mysterious intruder night the convent as well tell you now will have to kidnap Mlle. Lydie fleeing with her in his car, it all an excellent plan that will allow Monsieur Max become a hero in the eyes of the nuns of the convent and especially for his father, once told that it is he who finally gets to rescue the young victim from the clutches of the mysterious intruder from the convent.

When the father of Mlle. Lydie is warned of terrible news, MEIN GOTT !!!... Polivisión!,, Goes immediately to the convent in which, after an attempt on their part, to strangle with their bare hands to Monsieur Max, both two decide to go after the rescue of Mlle. Lydie, leading to another thrilling chase, this time by car.

During the car chase, the pursuers will find their way to a public square in which the center of it, has a monument, taking immediate the decision to follow the traffic rules that all genuine silent comedy should be noted, that is, surrounding the monument located in the plaza, two, three and four times in fast motion.

When we finally reached the driver's accomplice, he tries to escape with his dam being Mlle. Lydie in his arms, but fortunately Monsieur Max, what it is all a wonderful example of a great act of great heroism, fatally shoots the kidnapper who falls to the ground, releasing its prey, that is, to Mlle. Lydie.

Ah, finally back together and Mademoiselle Lydie Monsieur Max, under the watchful eye of his father and blessings!; For such a touching scene, the driver accomplice which has been behind the actors playing dead, sits up and laughs at the sight so beautiful happy ending, realizing as inappropriate situation, Herr Max, that not to expose his treacherous plan, shoots his accomplice driver, a , two, three, four times, the entire magazine revolver if necessary, everything is small if it means getting the love and happiness with his beloved.

Ah, but delightful comedy silent film "Max Au Convent" (1913) of Herr Max Linder! ... another excellent and entertaining example of how love finally triumphs over all things, no matter that even two important and influential institutions such terrible church and family, try to interfere with success.

And now, if I may, I have to leave because this count has to hang Germanic habits.

News from the BA program

This week we were with the eleven students of the BA program with our partner, the Stenden University in Leeuwarden, Netherlands. Where our students complete their first module test overcame terrific and also impressed the Dutch teachers long term. In module 1, they were given the task of the biography of a famous person with a developmental theory to interpret and the theory considered in this context also critical. The three working groups, analyzed the life of Hitler assassin Claus Schenk Graf von Staufenberg, musician Johnny Cash and the missionary and author Patricia St. John. Back in the written research papers written to ensure the students a great job. In the oral presentation in the Netherlands and even surpassed them this could also rhetorically brilliant and methodical.
Unfortunately, this great and successful day was an ugly end, there was on the way back a car, an accident on the highway. We are very grateful, however, that no one worse sustain injury - although it is now to process the shock to have and bruises heal etc..

Stiller day was at mbs - encounter with Jesus

Stiller days mbs: A great way to take a short break in November to meet Jesus. Meeting Jesus and people was the theme that we have discussed yesterday during the day quietly. We met at 8.45 clock in the Church to introduce ball. That case concerned an encounter with Jesus, Jesus will meet with us, this meeting reminds us of the essential and will help us refocus us. The competence team
spiritual life had considered a task of how to meet Jesus:
You could go in a group or alone in an urban area that you previously did not know so well. Alternative ideas were driving bus (leave a whole line) or look for a nice place in a cafe. Heading one met very different people. The task was to learn about the human mind make: what expectations they have of their lives? What could be the needs and dreams? How their life has played? A prayer to a Jesus-encounter these people have joined it. Then was time to think about their own life and inwardly to connect with people.
After lunch there was a possibility in the DG 1 +2 come on coffee and cookies over. In one room, it was easy to talk to the occasion, and in the other room there was "talk shop" at each table was given a question over which should be maintained.
The end of the day took place in the courtyard with prayer, songs and stories of experiences instead.

Small Hard Lump In Throat And Sore Throat

Spendenrun

We stand before the second last Sunday in the church year - for the business world is the best time of year, the holiday shopping season. Also for the works of faith is no different, before Christmas to give most people the largest amounts as donations.
for us too at the mbs is no different. We live by that time. But for several years, we know - "we would have to increase our donations," but we make no debt on the fly, but we live by the substance. As need 200 more donors to donate € 25 a month - would result in the year 60.000 € plus and would be very relieving.
But "we need" is a mixed blessing - that is not in our hands. Nevertheless, we must consider how we can improve our finanzeille situation. Now you can look enviously as others do it better: Some have a community organization behind them to support them through collections. But did we ever establish an association of municipalities, including through the training of educators made the even make sense. Others have a few large donors can (sometimes abroad) win, we did not and maybe it is not desirable because it makes also depends on expectations of these donors. Some have just a long tradition and the many graduates, the work is known and supported. The next year will mbs 40 years -. And has previously supported only volunteers who donate some to this day, but little effect in their communities is only since 1986, the professional qualification of mbs (in the first 3-6 years of graduates a year!), which is a short time. But all such thoughts take us even further.
possible compared to other schools, there are too few graduates, and to move communities to donate. Our ecumenical breadth charged here may not mind the fact that we do not have a community association behind us is a problem here. And since many go to socio-educational institutions, there are of course hard to understand for financial support of the training center. Our strength proves to be a problem.
must now of course I say that there are a number of donating alumni and friends. But given our number of graduates in recent years, it should be better. And we should be able better to attract new donors.

Normal companies would look and see where you can save. We do not, because our potential savings in personnel and material costs have us different from others. Then ask if the product arrives, yes - the demand for training places is undiminished. Thank God!
Let us pray that God brings donor and I hope that readers see these lines as an impetus ... and consider
... what they can give yourself ...
... whom they could draw attention to the support mbs ...
... how often they want to pray for the donations of mbs ...

How To Respond To A Rejection Of Employment

years thought

is fast approaching the Christmas upon us, the Christian church-year, as it stands at the door and at the end of it always comes to the different thoughts. The big questions come to mind: Have we achieved the objectives? (Which they were then?) Has anything important changed (is it positive or negative)? What you have to tackle time to time?
were easy to reproduce the questions. For a conclusion, it is far too early. But at least it is clear that we again have become a bit wiser. We have a lot of teaching and learning, which is good.
we our houses have made back a little better, the seminary building is safer, especially - it was not just about the new seminar rooms in the attic, much more it was the dilapidated roof, which kept us worried (thermal insulation, possible hazards in storm). The house has also become more beautiful, the basement ceilings are almost to the stairs (in house 59), renovated the heaters work (!).
Our structure is more on Will, the processes are improved, the use of computers is optimized with our name process we are making progress.
Our seminar has become known, has first idea for an article (I wrote them a few weeks ago a press release) Just Checking and asked for pictures. Well, that's something. At the congress for our experiential learning concept has been well received. Study of the GT in the spring with Alan Roxbourgh and Eberhard Hahn was well attended.
All this is very nice.

What is? We need to improve our fundraising position. But that is worth its own post ...

"A Woman of Paris" (1923) By Charles Chaplin

From the very start of the film "A Woman Of Paris" (1923), director, Herr Charles Chaplin, the audience Warns That by telling viewers this is not a usual Herr Chaplin silent production (... Probably in order to Avoid Conflicts misunderstandings and possible unreasonable from the audience Later Demanding Their money back. Some revolutions have started in this way merely from commoners demanding such trifle things as a raise of their salaries or better conditions at their work… ) More precisely, in this film the tramp doesn’t appear; instead viewers are going to watch a silent and sophisticated “serious” drama.

And certainly after so many years since its prémiere, “A Woman Of Paris” continues to be an unusual Herr Chaplin film. It’s a very remarkable oeuvre that probably will astonish the new generation for its singularity, honesty and boldness.

There are two aspects that made “A Woman Of Paris” a special and remarkable silent film for this Herr Graf.

The first one is the audacity in showing Herr Chaplin in the story of a mistress in the merry Paris of the 20’s, a woman who enjoy freely a luxurious life thanks to the money and the excellent social position of her “protégée”.

In the film there is not a trace of false moral, hypocrisy or judgement. Frau Marie St. Clair ( Frau Edna Purviance ) knows perfectly where she is and how she lives and her particular condition and the advantages and inconveniences that she has for living in that way. When her protégée Herr Pierre Revel ( Herr Adolphe Menjou ) announce his marriage with a rich bourgeois fraulein, she consequently accepts the facts. After all, the three can continue with such a particular open-minded relationship if they want it and with Frau St. Clair as “the other” (obviously) without remorse and not overscrupulous.

It will be only change when Frau St. Clair accidentally meets again her old fiancée Herr Jean Millet ( Herr Carl Miller ). Herr Millet, now a humble painter, lives with his old mother in a modest apartment. Conscience begins to prick her with awareness of her particular life and the possibility of changing an easy and cosy life of luxury for a common one with a man that truly loves her. However, that’s finally a transitional state of mind, choosing, as Frau St. Clair does (and after some troubles with her old fiancée) the Paris joyous life.

As this Herr Graf mentioned before, the way Herr Chaplin depicts Frau St. Clair having a clear conscience of her particular way of life is admirable nowadays. Few films of that time displayed such liberal, adult and honest relationships although they were a common issue in Paris not to mention in Berlin…

The second remarkable aspect of “A Woman Of Paris” for this Herr Graf are the feminine characters of the picture. They are curious portraits of womanhood... powerful, varied and free minded. Women of Paris act and indistinctly do whatever they want, toying with men if necessary for their own interest ( Frau St. Clair’s friends ), influential, over-protective and castrating ( Herr Millet’s mother ) or, as always, making their own and fundamental decisions. Frau St. Clair does all of this and shows that women rule the world, as happened since the dawn of mankind, by the way…

“A Woman Of Paris” has some of those slight sentimental Herr Chaplin touches that don’t harm the film at all. One happens in the beginning of the film depicting the sorrowful and humble life of Frau St. Clair in her small town (while at the same time suffering the tyranny of her stepfather). Another is her frustrating trip to Paris that she finally must to do ...or another...alone when her fiancée’s father death comes suddenly. The atonement at the film’s end, probably the only Herr Chaplin renouncement for the sake of a moral and standard ending that after all and in spite of this, is balanced with a beautiful and at the same time bitter end.

This Herr Graf wants also to remark on the actors included in the film: especially the superb Herr Adolphe Menjou, elegant, cynic, sophisticated and charming as always and Frau Edna Purviance - inexpressive and nonchalant as a German old rich spinster. And who can forget the merry Paris flappers of the film madly enjoying the pleasures of Paris of the 20’s?

“A Woman Of Paris” is certainly an unusual Herr Chaplin film and certainly one of the better ones of his silent period which depicts an open-minded story in where adult human beings live their lives by accordingly deciding what it is the best for themselves without false moral attachments or social conventionalisms.

From the beginning of the film "A Woman Of Paris", the director, Herr Charles Chaplin, warns the audience that are facing an unconventional film production Herr Chaplin , thus avoiding the film's director misunderstandings and potential conflicts with claims by the public about the return of money (some revolutions began because of trivialities like this, for example, increased wages or improved working conditions hairy workers ... ), More specifically, the public will be able to contemplate a sophisticated silent drama where for the first time do not see the famous Tramp character created by Herr Chaplin.

And indeed, after many years after its premiere, "A Woman Of Paris" remains a unique work of Herr Chaplin because of its uniqueness, continues to amaze new generations for its originality, sincerity and boldness. Herr Graf

This would place special emphasis on two remarkable aspects of "A Woman Of Paris."
The first is the boldness that had Herr Chaplin to run a story about a dear in the gay Paris of the 20's of last century, a woman who enjoys anything free from a self-conscious and luxurious life with money and good social position gives its "protégée. The film

not see any hypocrisy or false moral judgments to Frau Marie St. Clair (Edna Purviance Frau), a woman who really knowing where and how, consistent, enjoys his particular lifestyle, assuming both the advantages and disadvantages that gives your particular situation.
When your "protégée" Herr Pierre Revel (Adolphe Menjou Herr) announces his impending marriage to a wealthy bourgeois Fraulein, Frau sensibly accepts St. Clair facts, after all the two can continue living the same way if they consider it appropriate (Frau St. Clair as "the other", obviously), without any remorse or qualms on the part of both.

be only when accidentally Frau St. Clair is back with her old boyfriend Herr Jean Millet (Carl Herr Miller), now a humble artist who lives in a modest apartment with his elderly mother when he pricked the conscience of our heroin and be aware of the particular lifestyle that leads coming to consider making that change his life full of comforts and luxuries with a more vulgar next to a man who really loves her, a decision finally, after recent problems with her old boyfriend, is inclined to the gay Parisian life. How

Herr Graf said before, the way in which Herr Chaplin shows the ease with which Frau St. Clair lives his particular condition and lifestyle, is really admirable, as seen through the eyes modernist, very few films the time dared to show so openly as a liberal and honest relationship between two adults, although they were very common in both Paris and Berlin ...

The second remarkable aspect of "A Woman Of Paris" for Herr Graf are film's female characters, special portraits of women, very different, while powerful and liberated Parisian women who act how they see fit, playing with the men if it is appropriate to their interests (the friends of Frau St. Clair), influential, too protective and somewhat castrating (Herr's mother Millet), who rule the world at will through their own decision as acts Frau St. Clair and how, indeed, all women have made since the beginning of time.

In "A Woman Of Paris" there was some sentimental touches so characteristic of Herr Chaplin, but ultimately they do not harm the film too, as happens at the beginning of the film when shows the sad and humble life of Frau St. Clair in his small hometown, which suffers the tyranny of their stepfather, or the frustrating trip to Paris that ultimately has to do alone because of the sudden death of her boyfriend's father.
final atonement, probably the only concession on the part of Herr Chaplin to the public showing a much more conventional moral purpose, is balanced with a beautiful and equally bitter end. Herr Graf

It also wants to stress to the actors in the film, especially the great Herr Adolphe Menjou, so smart, cynical, sophisticated and charming as ever, and to Frau Edna Purviance, expressionless and indifferent as a rich old maid Germanic, not to mention all those happy girls of Paris in the twenties that can be seen in the film and how madly enjoying the pleasures of the city.

"A Woman Of Paris" is certainly an unconventional Herr Chaplin and certainly one of his best silent films in which he tells a sentimental story nothing prejudicial where the star adults live their lives according to what they consider best for them, without false moral bonds or floating with certain social conventions.

And now, if I may, I have to leave because this is an aristocrat cita con una mujer de Leipzig.

"The finances of the Grand Duke" (1924) by FW Murnau

The Grand Duke of Abacco ( Herr Harry Liedtke ) is settled on a Mediterranean island living an altruistic, distracted and careful life. In reality, he’s full of debts but that’s a situation that could change thanks to an unexpected sulphur deposit found on his small duchy.
The Duke, besides his financial problems, is threatened by his villainous principal creditor, who soon stirs up a plot. The dastardly plans count on some of his malicious subjects. Meanwhile other strange characters become involved in what and in will be a peculiar plot full of financial conspiracies and politics concerning the Grand Duke.

Many geniuses in different Arts are also humans. So, due to this, they have virtues and defects. As it happens sometimes with inhuman aristocrats, their major virtues are their defects and minor sins from time to time are revealed. And believed or not, such human weakness was suffered also by the great German film director, Herr Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau, who directed in 1924… a comedy!!.

Herr Murnau’s only comedy, “Die Finanzen des Großherzogs” it is certainly a rare oeuvre in his magnificent career ( although it is possible to appreciate some slight signs of humour in previous films as “Schloß Vogelöd“ - others Herr Murnau’s early film are not well remembered by this German count... ) “Die Finanzen des Großherzogs“ is a unique and special silent comedy piece stretching Herr Murnau’s parameters in what certainly is a bizarre film dealing with idealized and romantic subjects developed in a caricaturized way.

The story of the film is centered around the financial problems of the Grand Duke of Abacco. Together with the different characters involved in such odd story that Herr Murnau describes in a parallel way until little by little everyone comes together in what it is a special comedy of financial intrigue. It‘s a peculiar “totum revolutum” leading to an over-elaborated story.

After having directed “Phantom” (1922) from a script written by Frau Thea von Harbou ( in turn taken from a dense novel by Herr Gerhard Hauptmann ), this time Frau von Harbou and Herr Murnau considered it necessary to select a completely different literary option than the previous one. The choice was a light novel by Herr Frank Heller that in its adaptation to the silent screen has as a result a mixture of folkloric and stereotyped elements with an air of modern serial.

The film deals with idle and bankrupt aristocrats, a rich duchess, angry servants ( certainly, nothing new under the aristocratic sun ), blackmail, swindlers and even a Revolution. Everything is filmed in beautiful Yugoslavian places that give to the film an aesthetic aspect paralleling the story of the film in itself. That is to say, charming but at the same time irrelevant.., a Herr Murnau “divertimento”, certainly.

“Die Finanzen des Großherzogs“ is a transitional experiment, an exception in Herr Murnau’s superb silent career than in spite of its flaws has interest for any silent fan. It should be watched and considered simply as a weird and peculiar comedy of financial intrigues, a decadent passtime, ja wohl!.

And now, if you'll allow me, I must temporarily take my leave because this German Count must flee from his debts.

El Gran Duque de Abacco ( Herr Harry Liedtke ) Lives a carefree, unselfish and wild life in his Mediterranean island despite their economic situation is not exactly too buoyant, a situation that could change thanks to the discovery in his small duchy of some deposits of sulfur.
The Duke, in addition to their financial problems, has also threatened by its main creditor, which will foster a rebellion among the meanest subjects of the Duke, while this happens, other varied and strange characters will be involved in a plot full of peculiar financial and political conspiracies with the Grand Duke in the middle.

Many different arts geniuses have suffered careers human weaknesses, suffering these virtues as well as defects, as sometimes happens with inhuman aristocrats whose greatest virtue is precisely its great defects, small sins confessed that they occasionally come to light, human weaknesses were even suffered by the great director Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau Herr Germanic, which went silent in the year of 1924 ... a comedy!.

The only comedy directed by Herr Murnau, "Die Finanzen des Großherzogs" is certainly a unique work in its magnificent film career, but it is also necessary to specify that some cryptic samples Germanic humor could be seen in previous films of director Teutonic, as in "Schloß Vogelöd" (from the other early Herr Herr Graf Murnau has a vague memory ...), with "Die Finanzen des Großherzogs" one and special piece of silent comedy too tight to Herr Murnau parameters, resulting in a bizarre film in which certain aspects of history are idealized in a romantic and equally cartoonish.

The story focuses on the financial problems of the great Duke of Abacco, but also other characters of varying importance will be added to it, getting involved in this special financial intrigue comedy, a particular story might be too far-fetched, that Herr Murnau narrates in parallel to finally come together as peculiar "totum revolutum" during the latter part of the film.

After directing "Phantom" (1922) with the help on the script of Frau Thea von Harbou, which adapted the convoluted novel by Herr Gerhard Hauptmann, on this occasion Herr and Frau von Harbou Murnau saw fit to select a work completely different from the aforementioned, opting this time for a light novel written by Frank Heller Herr, resulting in its adaptation for the screen is a strange mix stereotypical aspects of folk elements with a certain air of modernist melodrama.

appear in the film ruined aristocrats, rich dukes, servants angry (come on, nothing new under the sun aristocratic ...) blackmailers, creditors and even a revolution, all filmed in beautiful places in Yugoslavia, imbuing the film with beautiful aesthetic elements fairly consistent with the history of film, this is certainly an air of charming but irrelevant at the same time, a whole "fun" for Herr Murnau film, certainly.

must then consider "Die Finanzen des Großherzogs" as a transitional film and experimental, an exception to the great career of Herr Murnau, that despite its flaws, is more interesting for all fans of silent films and should be seen and considered as a rare and peculiar comedy of intrigue particular financial a kind of decadent pastime, ja wohl!.

And now, if I may, I have to leave because this count Germanic has to flee from his numerous debts.
